Wednesday, September 18th, 2024 Join the Colorado School Finance Project for a day of conversation and discussion about changing school finance issues facing Colorado school districts; the ending of ESSER dollars this year and implications for school districts in changes of tax policy and changes to the school finance formula. We are excited for our Keynote Speaker Monica Johnson and an interactive panel Bree Jones, Chris Selle, Chris Fiedler and Chris Gdowski.

Our Speakers
Monica Johnson
Monica Johnson has been a leader in public education for over 25 years. She has led school accreditation teams for both North Central and the Colorado Department of Education. She has also served as the President of the Colorado Association of School Executives. Monica has been a Principal and Superintendent in a variety of Districts, from small rural areas to rural boarding metro areas.
She spent over a decade working with youth through domestic and international missions. Her passion for children and the power of education in their lives drives her desire to inspire teachers and leaders to be their best. She believes that education changes and saves lives. Her real-life stories of children who have overcome incredible obstacles because of the influence of one adult inspire educators to be the change their districts, buildings, and communities need to elevate all children.
Chris Selle
Chris Selle is in his fifthteenth year as a superintendent and is in his tenth year serving as the superintendent of Meeker School District RE-1. Prior to Meeker he served as superintendent in the Custer County School District and as a superintendent and principal in the Limon School District.
Chris Fiedler
Dr. Chris Fiedler is a 30-year educator who understands the business of education and the people it takes to deliver on the promise of 27J .
Fiedler began his career in 27J Schools in 2004 as the principal at Thimmig Elementary School. He next served as the principal at Prairie View High School before becoming 27J Schools Superintendent in 2012.
Fiedler grew up in Iowa, moved to Colorado with his parents, and graduated from Greeley West High School. He earned his college education degree in social science with an emphasis in secondary education from the University of Northern Colorado. He received his master’s degree in educational administration at the University of Phoenix. Fiedler received his doctorate in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Chris Gdowski
Chris has a strong connection to Adams 12 Five Star Schools. Chris attended school in the
district and graduated from Thornton High School. He served as the district's lead outside legal
counsel for many years, transitioning in 2006 to the in-house general counsel role. He has
served as superintendent since November 2009.
During his tenure as superintendent, the district has consistently improved. Under his
leadership:
● The district’s on-time graduation rate has improved by 10.7% over the past decade.
● The district has maintained a 'Performance' accreditation rating, since the adoption of
the new state accountability system in 2016.
● The district launched a STEM continuum that has drawn interest and accolades at the
state, national and international levels.
● The percentage of students scoring a 3 or higher on AP assessments increased by 16%,
while the number of students taking AP exams has increased by 542, over the past
decade.
● The percentage of students meeting both college readiness benchmarks has increased
by over 3%, since the inception of the administration of the SAT to all 11th graders in
Colorado in 2017.
